Pixel’s Editor: No More Unwanted Changes – Google’s Magic Editor Has Got You Covered!

Google Photos’ Magic Editor has been praised for its unique, creative AI-driven features that make it easy to remove unwanted objects, move objects within a frame, and perform more complex tasks.

Introduced at Google I/O 2023, the feature will debut on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. However, due to the heavy nature of AI, it cannot be denied that people have often wondered how the Magic Editor feature could be exploited and whether heavy manipulation of images is ethical.

Now, according to a report from Android Authority, it has been revealed that Google has considered this and implemented several “guardrails” to prevent users from tricking the AI and abusing the feature.

The report states that Google Photos version 6.60 contains code that is linked to error messages that users see when attempting to perform prohibited image editing.

Basically, users can’t edit images on ID cards, receipts, and other documents, which violates Google’s GenAI terms. In addition, face, body part, personal information, and very large selection photo edits that require a significant amount of data are also limited.

Additionally, it was found that even though Google disallows most of these edits, they can still be performed on an older version of Google Photos, causing the app to throw an error in the process.

In other news, Google just announced that Workspace users can now make direct 1:1 calls. This means you no longer need to create a meeting link and share it as a calendar or email invitation. Just open the Meet mobile app and start calling. These calls are also cloud-encrypted, so you can be sure that your conversations are safe. Google further said that this feature would be enabled by default and “can only be disabled by removing Meet meetings and calls from your organization.”
